Dear Mount Olive Member,
I have been asked by the Joint Board of Mount Olive to assist them in this time of crisis in our community, our state, our country and all over the world, as we confront the coronavirus (COVID-19).
I know there is a great deal of concern and fear about this unprecedented virus that is running rampant in our community. Never before, in modern history, have we been faced with such a problem that threatens our very existence and prevents us from gathering for worship as a people of faith.
Today we are confronted with worshiping, at our peril. As a community of faith, we want to be wise and faithful. Therefore, we must make changes in our style of worship, but not the substance of worship. Please pray for us as we attempt, as a faith community, to make changes that we hope will honor God and our faithfulness, as Disciples of Christ.
Please note the following changes in our operations at Mount Olive Baptist Church, effective immediately:
Beginning on Sunday, March 22, 2020 we will move our Sunday morning worship services online.
As we continue to minister to the needs of our community, please stay connected to our Church by reaching out to the office staff and our Deacons, should you need assistance.
These are trying times for our nation, our community and certainly for our Church. We are doing our best to provide our members with a safe and relevant worship service, through modern technology. We know that there is no substitute for in-person worship, but in times, such as these, we must adapt to the new realities of the times, in which we live.
Please support our efforts with your prayers and your tithes. We are asking our members to continue your generosity to our Church throughout these difficult times. You can give securely in these three ways:
Finally, Brothers and Sisters, remain, confident and hopeful in your faith in God, knowing that God is able to do all things well. Although, we do not always understand His ways, we are certain that God will work it out.
Do not lose hope in your Church, your leadership and your God. With your prayers, your adaptability and your financial support, we will come through this.
Please share this letter with others as we attempt to spread the word to our “scattered” faith community and encourage them to worship with us online, during this season of change. In the meantime, be safe, follow wise counsel and know that your Church Family is here to support you.
Sincerely,
The Reverend Gregory J. Jackson
Pastor Emeritus
