At Mount Olive Baptist Church, we stand firmly on the truth of God’s Word and reject the recent comments made by Pastor Donnie Swaggart about the Black church. It is difficult to understand why Swaggart would speak as if he were an authoritative figure, deciding when, how, or who we should worship. Such rhetoric dismisses the spiritual autonomy and profound legacy of the Black church, which has always sought to uplift all humanity through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

While Christian Nationalism emphasizes control and political power, the Black church embraces the Gospel of Social Justice—a mission rooted in love, justice, and mercy, working to transform individuals and communities alike. Our tradition reflects the heart of Christ, who called us to serve the least of these (Matthew 25:35-40) and bring hope and healing to all people.

At Mount Olive, we remain committed to freely worshiping God, serving boldly, and engaging in the work of justice and mercy for the glory of God and the good of our community. Micah 6:8 reminds us: “What does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” We will continue to walk in that truth, lifting up all people in the spirit of Christ’s love.
